Brittany Kos (BS, MS computer science, University of Colorado Boulder, 2012, 2014) studies听collegiate hackathons and computer science education. She uses听belonging and professional computer science identity theory to study hackathon environments.

Kos'听work is focused on women in computing, with the effort of bridging the severe gender gap seen in that field. Her goal is to study and adapt hackathon environments to better welcome diverse students into that space. By including more students in the informal learning environment of hackathons, she hopes听to build their sense of belonging and develop their sense of professional computing identity as well as听create a more diverse and inclusive future.听听

Kos' advisor is Lecia Barker, associate professor of information science in the听College of Media, Communication and Information.
