Baca_150x170.jpgProfessor Leonard Baca has been selected as a 2014 recipient of the CU Alumni Association's聽Robert L. Stearns Award. Initiated in 1953 in honor聽of聽CU's sixth president, the Stearns Award聽recognizes members of the faculty and staff for extraordinary achievement or service in any one or combination of the following areas: teaching, service to the University, work with students, research or off-campus service.

Professor Baca's distinguished record includes his wide recognition as a founding scholar of the field of聽bilingual special education.聽He is the executive director of the聽, which聽is recognized nationally for its work with ethnically and linguistically diverse students and their teachers.聽Much of Professor Baca's recent work on bilingual special education聽program models and best practices聽can be found in his book with Hermes Cervantes, .

The award will be presented to Professor Baca at the 85th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October聽23rd, at the Boulderado Hotel in downtown Boulder. He joins Dean Lorrie Shepard (2012) and Professor Dan Liston (2011) as School of Education recipients of this prestigious honor.
