A collaboration between the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education and Northeast Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services has received a new grant from the Colorado Department of Higher Education that bolsters collaborative efforts to create a more sustainable teacher force in Northeast Colorado.

The annual School of Education Scholarship Awards Ceremony united and honored more than 136 scholarship and fellowship recipients and supporters on Thursday, Oct. 18.

The American Physical Society, a "leading voice in physics,鈥� will honor CU Boulder scientists and educators as part of its spring 2019 awards. The Excellence in Physics Education Award will recognize an interdisciplinary CU Boulder team for their work with the Colorado Learning Assistant Program and the Learning Assistance Alliance, an international initiative based in the School of Education. Congrats to Valerie Otero, Laurie Langdon, and team.

Susan Jurow, associate professor of learning sciences and human development, was recently honored with the Provost鈥檚 Faculty Achievement Award for her contributions to learning in the food movement and her work focused on the organization of learning, participation, knowledge production, and social practices.

Colorado high school students interested in becoming teachers and community leaders can earn guaranteed admissions to the CU Boulder School of Education thanks to a new agreement between CU Boulder and two high school concurrent enrollment programs, Teacher Cadet and Pathways2Teaching庐 programs. The admission agreement comes at a critical time as Colorado and the nation face significant teacher shortages.

Join us for Ed Talks, a series of short, engaging talks led by CU Boulder School of Education change-makers and collaborators, on Nov. 7 at 7p.m. at the Dairy Center Arts Center in Boulder. Inspired by TED Talks, our fall Ed Talks will explore the collective power of students of color and more!

Two national organizations have awarded a grant that will deepen and advance our partnership between Denver Public Schools, CU Boulder, CU Denver and Rowan University. Professor Ben Kirshner is one of the Principal Investigators on the project that received a $1.4 million grant from the Hewlett Foundation and Jobs for the Future to expand the Student Voice and Leadership Program.

Bestselling author and renowned autism advocate Temple Grandin will share a blueprint for different ways of looking at the world and engaging with learners at a public event Tuesday, Oct. 9, on campus. Geared toward teachers and future educators, her talk will explore the beauty in asking questions, fostering curiosity and engaging with a vast variety of thinkers and learners.

Join us Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6:15 p.m. in Norlin Library鈥檚 Center for British and Irish Studies for an engaging conversation and screening of the documentary, The Long View, which shows how persistent community organizing can connect students and parents with educators to catalyze sustainable school improvement in Oakland, Calif.
