Q&A

What made you decide to pursue a degree or certificate in Engineering Management?
I came into the program after serving in management roles through my professional career. I wanted to earn the degree as a way to set myself apart from others as well as establish a foundation for future leadership and management opportunities.

Why did you choose the Engineering Management Program at CU Boulder?
I chose EMP because of the university's reputation in the engineering community as well as the vast network of professionals from which I can draw experience and grow. Additionally, I grew up in the Denver area and have been a fan of CU as long as I can remember. I have always been a Buff at heart, but I wanted to be able to say I graduated from the University of Colorado.

What was your favorite graduate EMEN class/professor? Why?
I think every class has been amazing and valuable in their own way and I would thank each and every professor I have had. To pick a favorite is difficult, but I would say that Leading Technical Organizations with Kathy Tobey was my favorite. She is extremely knowledgeable and communicates the message clearly, but I was able to identify with the material from my professional experience which was just as important for me. I often refer to the material I picked up in that class.

What advice would you give a new student in the program?
Understand what your commitment is before you start the journey. There are hard days and sleepless nights ahead, but it will all be worth it when you cross the finish line.

How would you summarize your experience with the program?
Before I started the journey, I questioned if it would be worth it to me. Now that I am done and reflect back on all I learned, I am so glad that I decided to complete the program. All of the professors I had were extremely knowledgeable, always prepared, understanding when situations arose and fully committed to your education as much as you are willing to commit. For me, this was 100% worth every minute of time and effort I put into it.
