Join GLI's Virtual Global Scholars Fellowship Program in Summer 2021!

Become part of a unique community across the US & East Africa interested in learning about international community development, engaging in group research projects and being part of true cross-cultural exchange!

GSFP is an intensive, interactive, rigorous academic program for scholars who are highly motivated and eager to build international experience on a remote-basis! Taking an interdisciplinary approach, fellows will Listen and Think with peers and development leaders from the US & East Africa, and dive into a role in fields like听entrepreneurship, engineering, public health, agriculture, conservation, business, or public service to promote community development, both abroad and in the US!听

What to expect from the GSFP?

• Weekly lecture series & discussions with key community development leaders from US & East Africa;
• Collaborative Research projects with multi-disciplinary focus;
• Remote mentoring & advisory support throughout;
• Participation with Uganda/US-led team to advance academic goals & research efforts.

Every effort will be made to individualize the experience to meet specific interests of each fellow by connecting them with thought leaders and meaningful experiences in their areas of interest鈥攕o please don鈥檛 be shy about communicating your passions to us! Students are welcome to apply for independent study credits through their own universities as needed, and GLI can support participants needing to complete an internship or independent study through the program.

Our hope is that through this process of listening and thinking, you will grow your networks both globally and among your own peer group. We are confident that the lessons of this fellowship will apply to your own life, whether it be in an international setting or in a local community setting in the United States.

Program Dates:听Monday, July 12 - Friday, August 13, 2021

Application Dates:听Applications due Friday, June 11; requests for funding assistance due by Friday, May 7

Cost:听$750 program fee (Includes all lectures, curriculum, mentoring, & any additional support to participants during the program)

Fellowship FAQs

Does this program have a curriculum that would count for academic credit, or is it for personal enrichment?

Academic credit is not available for the virtual fellowship at this time, though the program is a well-designed and enriching experience.听

Who is the program for?

The Center for Leadership funding assistance is only available to students who are participating in a campus leadership program, but the experience itself is open to anyone!听Undergraduates, graduate students, staff and faculty are welcome to apply.

Are there any examples of past engineering or technical topics that students have engaged听through this program?

Yes! In the past, students completed a solar energy project through the program. Going forward, there will likely be agricultural and environmental engineering and financial technologies opportunities. The program is willing to tailor content to the interests of participating students.

Are there any related non-virtual opportunities?

Yes! Study in East Africa with the Global Livingston Institute in 2022! CU's Engineering Leadership Program and Engineering Management Program plan to host the Global Intensive, "" in spring 2022. In this education abroad model, you'll study in Boulder for the entire spring 2022 semester before embarking on a ~2 week trip to East Africa in May, right after finals. You can even extend this experience by applying for an internship through GLI and spending summer 2022 living and interning in Uganda. Summer 2021's virtual Global Scholars Fellowship Program is a terrific precursor to the 2022 Global Intensive Experience!
