PhD Student
Construction Engineering and Management

Malek completed his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in Jordan, his home country, in 2012. Then, he moved to Dubai to work in the construction industry for eight years. During that period, Malek worked for two contracting companies, starting as a site engineer and ending in his last position as a construction manager. In 2020, Malek was awarded a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship to pursue his master’s degree in business administration (MBA); for two years, he learned about the business aspects of civil engineering. So, his master’s thesis was about integrating business intelligence and lifecycle cost assessment to enhance the construction industry’s performance. After that, Malek worked for ExxonMobil as a contracts engineer, yet he desired to expand his academic background and pursue a career in academia; accordingly, he started his Ph.D. in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Colorado Boulder in Spring 2024.

Malek enjoys working out, traveling, meeting new people, and learning languages in his free time. He believes in networking, learning about other cultures, and trying new cuisines. Malek is approachable and always eager to connect with like-minded individuals, so feel free to reach out to him and grab a coffee together.
