Arctic Rivers principle investigator Keith Musselman is an Assistant Research ProfessorÌýat the University of Colorado’s Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research who has worked in cold regions for 18 years.

Musselman’s inspiration for the project came from wanting to work more equitably with Indigenous communities in Alaska. He says: “It’s relatively rare for a research project to start with firsthand observations from communities. So rather than telling, we’re asking: How have changes affected you? How have you adapted in response? What other information would be useful to inform your decisions? And we use that info to guide the project and develop ideas together.â€

Looking ahead, Musselman envisions expanding his work across disciplinary and societal perspectives to better examine how climate change will affect the Arctic environment and its communities. He hopes incorporating different perspectives will more effectively exchange information towards sustainable solutions.
