University Classes During Work Hours

All request to register for a class on Boulder campus during work hours is reviewed three times annually through an application process. The employee should refer to the Employee Tutition Assistance Benefit page.

If the course is directly related to the employee’s job, the class may be taken during work hours. Classes are limited to one per semester.

If the course is not directly related to the employee’s job, the employee must present a proposal to their supervisor on how class time will be made up. Classes are limited to one per year.

Application Deadlines

Generally, the timeframe for deadlines are:

July 15, January 15, October 15

July 31, January 31, October 31

August 20, February 20, November 20

Applications due to supervisor

Applications forwarded to Deputy Director for final review

Employees notified of their application status

Process

Staff should complete the ³¦±ô²¹²õ²õÌý²¹±è±è±ô¾±³¦²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²ÔÌýand submit to their supervisor.

If recommended by the supervisor, the supervisor must include a written letter of support along with the application to be reviewed by the Deputy Director and/or Executive Director. If a supervisor does not recommend the employee takes the class, they will meet with the employee and document the reasons for not forwarding the application.

The Deputy Director and/or Executive Director will review all forwarded applications for final approval.

The supervisor review and the final review will take into consideration a number of criteria including:

  • The employee has been with RES for a minimum of one year
  • Past performance
  • Staffing implications

After final review, all applicants will be notified both in writing and in-person of their application status.
