Imma Ferrer

Dr. Imma Ferrer completed her Ph.D. on the development of LC-MS techniques for the detection of pesticides in environmental samples at the University of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) in 1999.  Afterwards, she did a post-doc with the U.S. Geological Survey at the National Water Quality Laboratory in Denver, Colorado for 3 years, where she worked on tandem mass spectrometric techniques for the analysis of pharmaceuticals in the environment.  She then worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Almeri...

Michael Thurman

Dr. E. Michael Thurman, PhD, is a highly cited scientist in environmental chemistry with over 16,000 citations (h-index of 58) and an Emeritus Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey, where he worked on pesticide and groundwater chemistry for 30 years.  He is currently Director of the Laboratory for Environmental Mass Spectrometry (at the Laboratory for Sustainability of Energy and the Environment, SEEL) at the University of Colorado, in Boulder, Colorado, USA.  The mass spectrometry Laboratory, CEMS, is ...

Jessica Rogers

Jessica Rogers is a Ph.D. candidate studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado. Her graduate research investigates the groundwater fate and transport of organic compounds identified in hydraulic fracturing fluids and wastewaters from unconventional oil and gas wells. Her projects with CEMS include characterization of surfactants and their biodegradation pathways.  Following the completion of her Ph.D. she will work as an engineer at the Boulder office of S.S. Papadopulos & Associat...

James Rosenblum

Dr. James Rosenblum is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Environmental Engineering Program at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His current research aims at improving water reuse practices and reuse of impaired waters through chemical characterization, toxicity assessment, advanced oxidation processes, and the development of treatment technologies specific to hydraulic fracturing produced water. His research utilizes both liquid and gas chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry, in-vit...

Kurby Sitterley

Kurby has been a student at CU Boulder since 2010. He earned his undergraduate degree in environmental engineering in 2014 and his MS in 2015, and has continued to a PhD under Professor Karl G. Linden. For his MS, his research focused on pretreatment technologies for hydraulic fracturing wastewater that could enable beneficial reuse. His PhD dissertation will focus on characterization of dissolved organic compounds in hydraulic fracturing wastewater using mass spectrometry and their transformation during di...
